On top of the Auckland Sky Tower there is this thing called the 'Sky Walk'. Basically, there is a walkway that is about one meter wide, without any railings. You wear coveralls over your normal clothes, and then you put on a safety harness. This safety harness is bolted onto a cable which is hanging from above. You are literally bolted in, and the carabiners attaching your safety harness to the safety line are closed with a wrench. It would be impossible to remove the harness and jump off the tower, even if you wanted to. For me, this did not change the sheer terror of being out here, 192 meters above the ground, standing on a metal grating, with nothing around me. It was just absolutely butt clenchingly scary. My minders, of course, having done this hundreds of times before, were sitting, swinging, dangling around, enjoying the morning. I wished I could, but I couldn't. I did however manage to operate my camera, more or less within the allotted time that I told these folks I needed. This image was shot with a Canon 5DS and a 200mm lens, with around 2400 source photos, shot over an hour and a half.
